WhatsApp Privacy Policy

This WhatsApp Privacy Policy explains how Sawalist (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles personal data shared when you communicate with us via WhatsApp, including conversations powered by our AI assistant. It supplements the Sawalist Platform Privacy Policy and applies to customers, businesses, and any person who engages with us on WhatsApp.
2. Data We Collect
- Account details: Phone numbers, display names, and business identifiers supplied through WhatsApp or your Sawalist account.
- Conversation content: Messages, attachments, booking information, and preferences that you share with our AI assistant or human team members.
- Usage metadata: Message timestamps, delivery status, language settings, and limited diagnostic logs that help us maintain reliable service.
We do not request or store WhatsApp passwords. Meta Platforms, Inc. may process additional information under its own terms and privacy policy.
3. How We Use Your Data
- Delivering responses from the Sawalist AI assistant and connecting you with relevant businesses.
- Facilitating bookings, reminders, and customer support requested through WhatsApp.
- Improving our AI models while applying safeguards that remove direct identifiers before analysis.
- Detecting fraud or misuse and complying with legal requirements.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
We rely on the following lawful grounds when processing WhatsApp data: (i) performance of a contract with you (for example, providing requested services), (ii) our legitimate interests in operating and improving Sawalist, and (iii) compliance with applicable legal obligations.
5. Sharing and Retention
- Service providers: We use vetted infrastructure partners (such as Meta WhatsApp Cloud API, hosting, and analytics providers) under agreements that restrict their use of your data.
- Business partners: When you request a booking or connect with a Sawalist-listed business, we may share relevant details so the business can respond.
- Retention: Conversation logs tied to bookings or support requests are stored for up to 24 months unless a longer retention period is required by law or necessary to resolve an active issue. Aggregated and anonymized insights may be retained indefinitely.
6. Your Choices and Rights
- You can opt out of WhatsApp communications at any time by messaging “STOP” or managing your preferences in your Sawalist account.
- Residents of certain jurisdictions may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of their personal data.

7. International Transfers
Sawalist operates across East Africa and may process data on servers located outside your home country. When we transfer personal data internationally, we apply safeguards such as contractual clauses or rely on lawful adequacy decisions where available.
8. Updates to This Policy
We may revise this WhatsApp Privacy Policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. Material updates will be announced in the Sawalist app or via WhatsApp. Continued use of WhatsApp to interact with Sawalist after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
